"No story sits by itself. Sometimes stories
meet at corners and sometimes they cover one another completely, like stones
beneath a river." & "That there are no random acts. That we are
all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can
separate a breeze from the wind."
Everything is interconnected. Everyone has the
power to affect others, it may be in a good way or in a bad way, the good thing
about this -it's a cycle. There's a story behind a story.. A
story that could make you realize why things happen. - And yes, certainly. Everything
happens for a reason. You may not know it for now but surely you will
know it when the right time comes.
"People think of heaven as a paradise
garden, a place where they can float on clouds and laze in rivers and
mountains. But scenery without solace is meaningless."
Albom gave a good imagery of heaven. For him
heaven actually isn't just a paradise garden but also a representation of the
phase wherein the spirit will finally get his eternal peace. It's like
a place that justifies everything that happened in his life, an absolute
freedom of all the troubles that he got while living on earth.
"No life is a waste, the only time we waste
is the time we spend thinking we are alone." - Blue Man
Everything that you do will surely affect others
- the good & the bad. Let's compare two middle-aged man both has family of
their own with different careers, one is a CEO of his own company, the other
man is a janitor for a long time. Some would say the CEO man's life was much
sophisticated than the janitor man. But the truth is, they're just the same.
They may have dealt with different situations in life BUT they both have the
power to affect others. - the good & the bad. No matter what the condition
of their life is, they still have the choice to make it count, to make it worth
living. The janitor might change the outlook of a troubled employee by just
saying "Good morning" everyday or the CEO could break someone’s
career by simply saying "You're fired". It's always a cycle of acts
within a story and cycle of story because of the acts.
"I took your leg to save your life." -
Captain
This is probably my favorite quote from the
book; it has astonishingly gave literal meaning to why does the captain shot
Eddie but it also gave a metaphorical meaning. You may lose something that you
dearly love; it may be a loved one, smart phone or a job. It may not make sense for awhile but it will eventually make sense when you finally knew the reason
why you have lost it, maybe it's for the better or maybe not.. but IT WILL
ALWAYS HAVE A REASON. IT SHOULD HAVE & IT HAS.
"Sacrifice is a part of life. It's supposed
to be. It's not something to regret. It's something to aspire to. Little
sacrifices. Big sacrifices." - Captain
Eddie got two events in his life that gave him
the chance to perform "sacrifice". The first one is going to war and
the second is when his father died. Unfortunately, he bagged those
events as the downfall of his life because it's different on how he pictures
his life would be, a life that is worth living, a story that will truly inspire
a lot of people. But the thing is, real life is inevitable,
things happens because everything is interconnected and everyone has the power
to affect the other. It might be cliché as it sounds but clearly, we could not
change the situation, but we could choose what to do in the situation. And in
the end you'll realize that your life here on earth is just a training ground
on how to attain the right attitude on dealing things. If only Eddie
wasn't blinded of how these events changed his life, his life will be more
different. Truly, sacrifice must always be something not to regret..never.
"ALL PARENTS DAMAGE their children. It
cannot be helped. Youth, like pristine glass, absorbs the prints of its
handlers. Some parents smudge, others crack, a few shatter childhoods
completely into jagged little pieces, beyond repair."
What do I know about parenthood? I've never been
a mother except from my boyfriend's dog. So let me speak from a child's point
of view. Yes, it’s really true. Parenthood is one of the noblest job you'll
ever have. My uncle whom I treat as my father told us that children are like
report cards of their parents, they are the evidence if their parenthood career
was successful, and when the time comes God will ask each of the parents
what happened to their children and they will be accountable to whatever the
result is. But then again no one's perfect. No one is too righteous enough
to perfectly raise their children. Everyone has their own glitch on what kind
of person did their child have become.
"No one is born with anger. And when we
die, the soul is freed of it." - Ruby
No one is born with
anger, it's the reaction of
one person to a situation where he felt injustice, it may occur in different
situations and scenarios in someone's life, And when he dies he'll finally know
that the "certain thing" that have aggravate his feelings got
his own story to tell, a story that will make him understand why these
certain things happened. Indeed, Albom demonstrated that heaven is a place
where everything that happened in your life will finally make sense.
"PEOPLE SAY THEY "find" love, as
if were an object hidden by a rock. But love takes many forms, and it is never
the same for any man and woman. What people find then is a certain love.
And Eddie found a certain love with Marguerite, a grateful love, a deep but
quiet love, one that he knew, above all else, was irreplaceable."
Everyone is entitled to fall in love - in any
form. Up to the most obscure ways.. but the only thing that will matter is kind
of love that outages all the uncertainty, that
finally everything have become certain and you'll realize it's the kind of love you'll
only feel once.
